Information Technology Ethics Uber Self Driving

Question: Discuss about the Information Technology Ethics for Uber Self Driving. Answer: Introduction The essay depicts the importance of considering ethical aspects while building skills for different intellectual properties. In case of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) the main identified issue is privacy, security etc. The given case study demonstrates that Uber is expanding their car as self driving; however the drivers are not worried about their job (Bourke, 2017). Different ethical theories such as utilitarianism, deontology, virtue and contract can be applied, particularly for this case. Finally the essay illustrates the principle of ethics, that are needed to be maintained the overcome the questionable situation. Background scenario During analyzing the case scenario it has been found that Uber is willing to expand its trial of self driving cars and if the concept become successful in the real world application then, for the taxi industry it will be the biggest threat (Hernandez, 2016). In order to develop the autonomous car that is a Volvo XC90s Uber is currently collaborating with a car marker. This automated robotics system is referred to as very much effective where, all the phases from the car booking up to destination achievement (Alterovitz, Koenig Likhachev, (2014). In this robotics system no driver is required, as soon as a passenger books for a cab, the location tracker will track the location of the passenger and after riding, the car will automatically start driving. In order to monitor the entire system there will be one person sitting beside the seat of the driver. From the visibility aspect there is an extra fitting on the car roof but that is found to be not at all suitable (Bourke, 2017). With the help of laser technology this system has been implemented in the real world application. It is believed that the ride sharing company is completely unable to serve viable mode of transportation. In the future of transportation the self driving will become one of the most important parts of future driving (Tummala et al., 2015). The straight objective of Uber is to become more and more efficient in the competitive market. Uber is testing this service in the street of Pittsburgh and after validation and verification the technological advances in robotics and automation industry will bring worldwide change (Bourke, 2017). However, many ethical issues are associated to these automated systems which are identified in this essay. Ethical theories While analyzing the ethical aspects four major ethical theories are identified and all those theories are strictly associated to the case study of Uber self driving. The identified major ethical theories are utilitarianism, deontology, and virtue and contract (Zohn, 2015). The purpose of using different ethical theories is to guide the technical developers during the investigation session. These theories are discussed below: Utilitarianism This is a consequence based theory, which consists of two principles. The first one is the principle of social utility and the second one is based on the belief that social utility can be calculated by considering the component of happiness procedure (Brodsky, 2016). The ultimate desire of any person is to get happiness in life. The automated robotics technology of self driving which is under the testing period is capable to serve enough happiness to the worldwide passengers (Gurney, 2015). However, the critics have rejected the importance of consequences of individual act. In the everyday activities each and individual actions are referred to be completely unique from one other. In order to guide the behavior of different person this theory is applied. This theory mainly guides the behavior of every individual person. In Uber self driving case study, before implementing the technology in the real world application, the top management team of the organization should make a proper verification phase, which will help them to understand whether the application is helpful to the users or not (Brinkmann, 2013). The IT management team should consider all individual factors to check, whether the technical implementation is ethically correct or not. The moral of this theory is to identify the situation is permissible for the user or not. Deontology The deontology theory is focused on the intention or motivation factors of every individual. The term deontology implies the duty of every individual that is needed to be served by the members who are associated to a particular service (Zwitter, 2013). In Uber case, under the context of contemporary moral technologies, deontology theory is should be applied as this is one of the important of normative theories. This falls under the moral theories of guidance and choices. Different choices are offered to the passengers and to the development team of the organization will helps to understand that whether the service is practical for employees or not. In Uber case study implementation of automated robotics is morally correct, if the technological experts feel confident about their real world application (Demuijnck, 2015). As the application of the robotics is under trail phrase therefore, sill now it is not confirmed that the situation is morally correct. Virtue and contract This theory is based upon the relationship between the user and service provider. It helps to identify, the level of trust between both parties. The technology department of Uber is testing all the aspects of automated robotics, before implementing the technology in the practical practice (Novitzky, 2016). On the other hand, the users are dependent on these technologies. These technological advances are very much beneficial but while considering the ethical aspects it has been found that, the temporary and permanent drivers of Uber are getting replaced by this automation system (Bourke, 2017). This particular theory is used to check, whether the contract between the user and the service provider is ethically correct or not. From the analysis session it has been found that the contract between the service provider and the users are morally correct. Conclusion From the overall discussion it can be concluded that, Uber service is still under an ethically questionable situation. As, the technology is under a trial phase thus in the real world application certain issues are identified. The main ethical issue oriented to this system is the replacement of Uber drivers. The number of jobless person will increase at a rapid rate after implementing this application. On the other hand, as this technology is serving in real world for the first time thus, no one is aware of the faults that might occur after implementation or during the maintenance phase. Different ethical theories are applied to understand the situation of the Uber self car. Recommendations In order to develop the system of Uber self driving certain factors are needed to be considered to improve the entire technology. The recommendations to develop the system are as follows: Proper testing: Before implementation of the automated robotics technologies, the software developers must maintain all the stages of testing period. Training and development program: Required training and development programs should be arranged to develop the employees. Better utilization of radar: As the system serves self driving opportunity thus the monitoring and location tracking approach is required to be very efficient in order to avoid accidents. In rural areas if the tracker loss the correct grid then major issues might arise. In order to avoid these problems radar is needed to be implemented. Research Paper on Wikileaks Essay Example

Research Paper on Wikileaks Essay Wikileaks is an international nonprofit organization that publishes declassified and private documents, and movies, in cooperation with the media. The material is uploaded by anonymous sources, so-called whistleblowers, to the organization’s website and document database that is located in Sweden. The organization says it wants to reveal unethical behavior by governments and businesses, and seeks free access to information of public interest. WikiLeaks revelations of massive corruption in Tunisia is considered as one of several factors behind the Jasmine Revolution and the Arab Spring, which began in Tunisia in January 2011 and spread to several dictatorships. The organization was started in December 2006 by a group of journalists, Chinese dissidents, IT entrepreneurs, and mathematicians from around the world. After a year, the site’s database has grown to 1.2 million documents. In June 2009, the site had declared to 1,200 volunteers. The documents to be published is selected by a core group of some 20 editors, mostly programmers and Internet activists, in collaboration with a thousand more or less loosely connected journalists. WikiLeaks does not verify the materials and resources, but left early review to the public and thereafter five major newspapers in various countries may preview the material for payment for a period before it is released. In particular, in 2011, the unedited material containing non-anonymised information was available to the public. When Assange was arrested on suspicion of sex crimes in Sweden and requested extradition from Britain, the Icelandic journalist Kristinn Hrafnsson was named the official spokesperson for WikiLeaks in December 2010. WikiLeaks was originally launched as an editable wiki site, where the public could view the documents and detect errors. It has gradually moved towards a more traditional publishing model, where traditional media performs the preview, and the public’s comments and edits are currently not allowed. WikiLeaks has been threatened with closure several times, and because of this, it has urged the global sites to reflect the site’s content. The database has been moved to several servers in different locations, often in Sweden because of its unique constitutionally protected freedom of expression that is not expected to change under pressure from other countries. To be protected by this law generally requires that the organization has a publisher in Sweden, why Julian Assange has applied for a work permit in Sweden, but without success. Wikileaks Forum is a discussion forum that was launched March 2, 2011 and is run by supporters of Wikileaks to be a platform for people to discuss topics, related to WikiLeaks. By 2013, in addition to the English version, site had been translated into 25 languages. Free research paper on Wikileaks is the best way to acquire basic knowledge about the topic. The Crab Nebula Supernova Remnant

The Crab Nebula Supernova Remnant Theres a ghostly remnant of star death out there in the night-time sky. It cant be seen with the naked eye. However, stargazers can glimpse it through a  telescope. It looks like a faint wisp of light, and astronomers have long  called it the Crab Nebula. The Ghostly Remains of a Dead Star This faint, fuzzy-looking object is all that remains of a massive star that died in a supernova explosion thousands of years ago. The most famous recent image of this cloud of hot gas and dust was taken by the Hubble Space Telescope  and shows amazing detail of the expanding cloud. Thats not quite how it looks from a backyard-type telescope, but its still worth searching out from November through March each year. The Crab Nebula lies about 6,500 light-years from Earth in the direction of the constellation Taurus. The debris cloud has been expanding ever since the original explosion, and now it covers an area of space about 10 light-years across. People often ask if the Sun will explode like this. Thankfully, the answer is no.   Its not massive enough to create such a sight. Our star will end its days as a planetary nebula.   The Crab Through History For anyone alive in the year 1054, the Crab would have been so bright they could see it in the daytime.  It was easily the brightest object in the sky, besides the Sun and Moon, for several months. Then, as all supernova explosions do, it began to fade. Chinese astronomers noted its presence in the sky as a guest star, and its thought that the Anasazi people who lived in the U.S. desert southwest also noted its presence. Weirdly enough, there are NO mentions of it in European histories of the time, which is somewhat odd, since there WERE people observing the sky.   Some historians have suggested that perhaps wars and famines kept people from paying much attention to celestial sights. Whatever, the reasons, the historical mentions of this awesome sight were pretty limited.   The Crab Nebula got its name in 1840 when William Parsons, the Third Earl of Rosse, using a 36-inch telescope, created a drawing of a nebula he spotted that he thought looked like a crab. With the 36-inch telescope, he was not able to fully resolve the colored web of hot gas around the pulsar. But, he tried again a few years later with a bigger telescope and then he could see greater detail. He noted that his earlier drawings were not representative of the true structure of the nebula, but the name Crab Nebula was already popular.   What Made the Crab What It Is Today? The Crab belongs to a class of objects called supernova remnants (which astronomers shorten down to SNR). They are created when a star many times the mass of the Sun collapses in on itself and then rebounds out in a catastrophic explosion. This is called a supernova. Why does the star do this?  Massive stars eventually run out of fuel in their cores at the same time they are losing their outer layers to space. That expansion of the stellar material is called mass loss, and it actually begins long before the star dies. It gets more intense as the star ages, and so astronomers recognize mass loss as a hallmark of a star that is aging and dying, particularly if theres a LOT of it happening. At some point, the outward pressure from the core cant hold back the massive weight of the outer layers, They collapse in and then everything blasts back out in a violent burst of energy. That sends huge amounts of stellar material out to space. This forms the â€Å"remnant† that we see today. The leftover core of the star keeps contracting under its own gravity. Eventually, it forms a new type  of object called a neutron star. The Crab Pulsar The neutron star  at the heart of the Crab is very small, probably just a few miles across. But it is extremely dense. If someone had a can of soup filled with neutron star material, it would have about the same mass as Earths Moon!   The pulsar itself is roughly in the center of the nebula and spins very fast,  about 30 times a second. Rotating neutron stars like this are called pulsars (derived from the words PULSating stARS). The pulsar inside the Crab  is one of the most powerful ever observed. It injects so much energy into the nebula that astronomers can detect light streaming away from the cloud in virtually every wavelength, from low-energy radio photons to the highest energy  gamma rays. The Pulsar Wind Nebula The Crab Nebula is also referred to as a pulsar wind nebula or PWN. A PWN is a nebula that is created by the material that is ejected by a pulsar interacting with random interstellar gas and the pulsar’s own magnetic field. PWNs are often difficult to distinguish from SNRs, since they often look very similar. In some cases, objects will appear with a PWN but no SNR. The Crab Nebula contains a PWN inside the SNR, and it appears as a sort of cloudy area in the middle of the HST image. Astronomers continue to study the Crab and chart the outward motion of its remnant clouds. The pulsar remains an object of great interest, as well as the material its lighting up as it swings its searchlight-like beam around during its rapid spin.      Edited by  Carolyn Collins Petersen.

Does the modern day target driven fire and rescue service need better Essay

Does the modern day target driven fire and rescue service need better management or does leadership provide the solution - Essay Example Several theories are explained in detail and related to the FRS to gauge which theory bets applies for the improvement of the operational system. Among these theories are trait, behavioral, contingency, constellation, participative, management, relationship, path-goal theory, action-centered leadership and the leadership grid. These theories prove that some of them are not applicable while some are in the given situation the analysis and discussion point out that management by objective can only be successful when there is leadership and thus both have to be implemented simultaneously. Towards the end recommendations have been given as to how the leadership can be improved with the goal oriented management. the private sector today is undergoing immense change with downsizing and greater work responsibility in their management systems. This according to Grint (2005) is because the people expect more for less and the same expectation has paved its way into the public sectors also where the people expect organizations like the fire department to provide more from the limited resources. To fulfill this demand, the fire departments have been undergoing drastic changes. This as George (2003) explains has become essential in order to be efficient and competitive in the market place. To suffice the demand of the people, and be according to the way the people want the department to be, the government has realized that the management system has to be adjusted so that the changing needs of the people may be met. At the same time, adds Taylor (2009) with the recession, the costs are increasing, people are paying fewer taxes and thus the fire department has a lower budget to work with and therefor e it requires to be more efficient and to maximize the use of its resources. The fire department has always been managed with the rank-based management system. However, the government wants to change

Advertising in Newspapers Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Advertising in Newspapers - Research Paper Example Newspapers allow the usage of writings or photos in advertising or as a means of communicating information to the public. However, in advertising, most organizations often use both photos and writings in communicating to its various clienteles. Companies often design and use attractive or appealing photos alongside certain enticing words, to make customers purchase their desired products. How it Targets a Specific Group Newspapers are designed in a manner to ease the process of advertising and conveyance of information (Humphrey, 2003). Advertising in newspapers is used in varied ways. Advertisements in newspapers can be used to convey messages to a certain targeted group. Newspapers consist of different sections such as the sports section, politics sections and the social sections. Advertisers, therefore, can use these sections to target a certain group having the potential of purchasing the products in the market. For instance, when advertising sports attires, it is wise to post th e advertising details within the sports section. This ensures that the advert posted reaches the intended customer. Additionally, certain newspapers often provide free magazines covering a certain topic that is of major concern to the public. Some of them talks about lifestyles, social aspects, relationships and political aspects. Such magazines can also be exploited as a suitable platform for targeting a certain group. However, despite this being an effective approach, it is also imperative to consider other factors, which comes into play for the effectiveness of the advertisement. For instance, the advertising company must ensure that the targeted group is able to read and comprehend the conveyed message. The Primary Role of a Newspaper The newspaper has numerous roles, the primary one being to inform the public. Other roles of the newspaper are to educate and advertise various products on behalf of a certain company (Farell & Cupito, 2010). Since advertising also aims at informin g the public about new products in the market, the advertising process thus fits within the primary role of newspapers. Advertising helps in informing the public on the new prices in the market and the modifications done on various products. This empowers the public to make informed decisions regarding their desired products or services. It is advisable for organizations to use both visual aids and wordings in their adverts, when using newspapers as an advertising medium. Visual aids add value to adverts thus making them appealing to the targeted group. Newspapers act as a support medium, in most cases. Most of the information documented or printed in newspapers are often not directly from the person conveying the message. The writings are often edited or rewritten by a different individual (newspaper editors), who never participated in writing the original document. This, therefore, makes the newspaper a support medium of conveying information. However, in some instances, newspaper s always print direct information or quotes from a certain source. Although this does not mean that, it is a primary medium. This is because the information obtained was initially meant for a different group as opposed to the ones addressed by the newspaper. Accessibility Newspapers are easily accessible thus can be reached by a number of potential buyers. For instance, in certain countries such as Netherlands, newspapers are distributed for free thus anyone can access them, even young children. Moreover, even if they are being sold in certain countries, the cost incurred when purchasing is often affordable to a significant part of the

Lesson Plan Reading Essay Example for Free

Lesson Plan Reading Essay Reading skill can easily be developed in school pupils through simple, interesting, systematic and analytical instructional phonic practice. In order to prepare school children for reading, there is need to engage them in some activities that will stimulate their phonic awareness. According to Marilyn Jager Adams (2004), some of the activities are described below: Objective: To extend the awareness of initial phonemes in school children by asking them to compare, contrast and eventually identify the initial sounds of a variety of words. Materials required: Picture cards. Activity: A few picture should be spread in a circle and the children be told to find those pictures whose name starts with the initial sound on which they have just been working. Each child is to say the name and initial phoneme of each picture that is found. If the initial sound match, the child selects another pair, otherwise, another child takes a turn. Objective: To help children to separate the sound of words from their meaning. Activity: The children should be shown how a totally different word may result if the initial phoneme of a word is removed. This will enable the children to separate the sounds of words from their meaning. The children should be called to line up by saying their first name without the initial sound. The children have to figure out whose name has been called and what sound was missing. Objective: To introduce the children to the challenges of analyzing words into phonemes. Materials required: Blocks and two-phoneme word cards. Activity: A child should be told to pick up a card and name what it depicts. The teacher is expected to repeat the word slowly and with a clear pause between its two phonemes. All the students should then be told to repeat the word in the same manner. The teacher is expected to place blocks in two different colors underneath the picture as she enunciates the sound represented by each. This will show that the word bow consist of two separate sounds. The children should repeat the sounds while pointing to the respective blocks, pausing slightly between phonemes with each repetition. Objective: To introduce the children to the challenges of synthesizing words from phonemes. Materials required: Blocks and two-phoneme word card. Activity: The teacher should choose a picture and place it face down so that the children cannot see it. Then name the picture phoneme by phoneme, while placing the blocks beneath the picture. While the children points to their own blocks, they are expected to repeat the phoneme over and over again. This activity can later be used to teach the alphabetic principles by replacing the colored blocks with letter tokens. If this is to be done, however, it should be noted that, to convey the essential logic of the alphabetic principle, it is best that all words include one letter for each sound, left to right. With this in mind, words with silent letters should be avoided. The above activities, when practised, will develop reading skills in school children. The Immigrants of America Essay -- Immigration

The culture of every ethnic group is beautiful in its own way and worth cherishing. Today, America is known as the great melting pot not for the number of immigrants it has but rather because of the wonderful cultures and traditions the immigrants brought with them. Immigrants do not need to forgo their mother tongue, significant celebrations or customs to become American. However to be socially accepted, they will need to learn English, take part in celebrating national holidays and fulfill their patriotic duties Americans like every other U.S citizens. It is important for immigrants to learn to speak and write in English while keeping their native tongue. Without knowing how to speak the common language here, it is impossible to blend in. I have seen Vietnamese people who migrated to the United States more than ten years ago but still speak little to no English. Most of them live in their little Vietnamese communities, subsisting off either minimal pay-checks from manual labor, such as giving manicures, or their relatives’ paychecks. They are like parasites that could literally die without their host. Foremost, they will put themselves in danger because they cannot read warning signs and prohibitions. If emergencies arise, these non-English speakers would not be able to explain the situation to a police officer. In the worse case, they will endanger others’ lives as well. These probably have their own reasons for not learning English but denial to learn when they have the potential is simply illogical when this would open so many doors, opportunities and win them the acceptance of the general population. Even Japanese people learn to speak English once they migrate to America although it is the taboo language in Japan. Immigra... ...nd Videos - For Dummies. Web. 07 Dec. 2010. . Yamaguchi, Kristi. Wisdom, Morality, and Meditation

The Fourth Noble Truth is the Noble Eightfold Path, which is also referred to as â€Å"Magga. † The Noble Eightfold Path essentially has three main parts: Wisdom, Morality, and Meditation. These three sections represent the eight sections of the Noble Eightfold Path. Wisdom is broken down into â€Å"Right View† and â€Å"Right Intention. † Next, morality consists of â€Å"Right Speech,† â€Å"Right Action,† and â€Å"Right Livelihood. † Finally, meditation consists of â€Å"Right Effort,† â€Å"Right Mindfulness,† and â€Å"Right Concentration. † One may think that these eight parts must be followed in a specific order, however, all eight parts work mutually dependent of each other. Right View is a part of Wisdom and, according to our class lectures, is the â€Å"Middle Way between eternalism and nihilism; the emptiness of all things. † Right View distinguishes wholesome (beneficial) things from unwholesome (harmful) things. A few examples of unwholesome things from our class notes are: onslaught of living beings, taking what is not given, sensual misconduct, lying speech, divisive speech (idol speech), harsh speech, covetousness, and wrong view. The roots of unwholesomeness can be narrowed down to three things: greed and desire, hatred and anger, and ignorance and confusion. Thich Nhat Hanh describes the importance of Right View and what it is within chapter 9. Right View is known as samyag drishti. TNH talks about how seeds are planted within our bodies, and everyone has them. I thought it was the coolest analogy when TNH taught of these seeds within our bodies. It seems like everyone has each kind of seed of all different traits, but it depends on whether or not those seeds are watered within our bodies. He says: If you live in an environment where your seed of loyalty is watered, you will be a loyal person. But if your seed of betrayal is watered, you may betray even those you love. You’ll feel guilty about it, but if the seed of betrayal in you becomes strong, you may do it. (TNH, 51) This is such an amazing statement because I am a fairly strong believer that you are the product of your environment. Most people do whatever the â€Å"status quo† is in their neighborhood and rarely does anyone make a big jump to do something drastically different. I feel like all people are created the same, at least mentally, and it is up to the upbringing to form how someone acts in life. The reading of TNH’s chapter 9 discussed how it is up to the individual to decide which seed grows more than others within one’s body. In class we discussed how one can try to keep the seed of anger, for example, from growing. It is up to the individual to essentially stunt the seed of anger’s growth when one feels any possibility of anger coming in. While pushing the feeling of anger away, one should try to grow the seed of loving-kindness instead. Within my own life, I try to live by the idea of â€Å"killing people with kindness. † This is my third year as RA here on St.  Bonaventure and when I confront a situation, I try to always be as nice as possible. There’s nothing better than when we are documenting a room for a violation, usually alcohol related, and being overly nice to them. They have no idea how to handle the niceness in the situation. It just makes the situation so much better in the long run. Most people act very mad and rude to us when they are being documented and they don’t expect us, the RA’s, to be nice to them, but when we are nice to them and don’t let their obscene â€Å"hate words† affect us, they don’t know what to do. I feel like this could be a small example of growing my seed of kindness because I could get very angry about the students calling me hateful names for simply doing my job. Instead, I try to do what TNH said in Chapter 10, â€Å"†¦replace an unwholesome thought with a wholesome one by ‘changing the peg,’ just as a carpenter replaces a rotten peg by hammering in a new one. † (TNH, 62) In this example of my RA duties, I replace the unwholesome thought of harsh speech with loving-kindness, compassion, and clarity (education) to why the students are being documented. Discussing â€Å"Morality†, I read a part in which Kornfield was talking about his teacher, Maha Ghosananda (the Gandhi of Cambodia). Kornfield was telling how his teacher would teach the survivors of the 1975-88 genocide in Cambodia practices of compassion and loving-kindness for their own loss and that of others. He said, â€Å"You have lost so much. Now you know how precious everything is in this world. You must love again and let new things grow. † (Kornfield, 81) This quote can be related to â€Å"Right View,† but more importantly the concept of compassion which is within â€Å"Right Conduct† or â€Å"Morality. I absolutely love this quote because I feel like way too many people take their great lives for granted. I am sad to say that I am sometimes right in that category of people. I am always humbled so much when I meet someone who has endured a great amount of pain, or those who have already had cancer and are the same age as me. Right now, while at college I have two close friends who have already battled cancer and are now back at college. It makes me feel like I should be so incredibly thankful for the life that I have been blessed with. Many times one can become attached to something that is not all that important. Meditation can resolve this. In chapter 12 of TNH, it talks about how we have become so efficient and able to talk to places on the other side of the planet, however, he also explains that people have a harder time with one-on-one interactions and speech nowadays. This is an example of becoming attached to technology instead of listening and speaking with people in person. When reading through Kornfield’s 24th chapter, I noticed the stories about Dipama Barua, one of the greatest meditators of the Theravada lineage. They told of how she lost two out of three of her young children to illness and lost her husband due to a heart attack soon after. Most people would feel like there is no longer a reason to live after something like that, and she was one of those people. However, after a year of lying in bed full of grief, she started doing meditation and then eventually became a master of meditation. (Kornfield 382-384) Kornfield had gone to see Dipama and had such an encounter! When he was leaving from seeing her, she touched him and said a 10 minute prayer in which he started to have a realization and see everything in a positive light. After this, he could not stop smiling at everything. (Kornfield 382-384) This encounter between Kornfield and Dipama reminds me of times that I feel like nothing can go right, but all it takes is seeing and talking to someone who you really like and respect. Then, after talking to this one person, you have a totally new positive outlook on life. This short story tells me that how you go through life is all about perspective. This â€Å"halt† in life represents a meditation. Sometimes one has to take a break from their busy lives and just reflect on their life and spirituality. When I have done this in the past, it feels so incredibly rewarding to just take a break from things and reflect on how great life is. When one is thinking about the Noble Eight-Fold Path, one has to remember that all of the â€Å"Rights† link into each other. We need to be compassionate for others, practice loving-kindness, and embrace wisdom, morality, and meditation within our lives to better understand everything.
